In
1996, the World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT) designated 8th
September as World Physical Therapy Day to raise awareness about the profession
and to recognize and honor all physiotherapists around the world.
Physiotherapy or physical therapy is a
profession that remediates impairments and helps restore movement and function
when an individual is affected by injury, illness or disability.
Physiotherapists
mainly deal with musculoskeletal problems and are an active part of a
multi-disciplinary medical team.
The
earliest documented origins of physiotherapy in Iran as a professional group
date back to approximately 50 years ago when Iranian Association of
Physiotherapy established.
“We
are pleased to host member colleagues of Iranian physiotherapy community for
the second time at Iranian Medical Council due to celebrate World Physiotherapy
Day and admire their contributions to national healthcare system.” Dr. Farjoud
Shokouhi, the Chair of ceremony organizing committee and elected member of
IRIMC Supreme Council remarked.
Present
at the launch were: Dr. Shokouhi, the elected member of IRIMC Supreme Council, Dr.
M. Hashemi, the former Chairman of Iranian Physical Therapy Association (IPA), Dr.
