The 2016 FDI Continuing Education Program launches in January with courses in Kuala Lumpur, Myanmar, and Egypt.

Development through continuing education is an essential part of the dental profession. It is an important aspect of modern evidence-based dental practice. Furthermore, it is essential that dentists maintain an up-to-date clinical and theoretical knowledge of the art and science of dentistry.

To this end, FDI's Education Committee organizes a number of events to support this requisite every year.

The first session of the comming year is organized by the Malaysian Dental Association and will take place in Kuala Lumpur from 15 to 17 January and cover two topics: ‘Oral/periodontal health for general health and healthy ageing: Dentists’ role and perspective’; and ‘Temporomandibular disorders: the great imposter!’ The first course will be delivered by FDI Councillor Prof. Li-Jian Jin, Professor in Clinical Dental Science of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong; the second by Prof. Adrian Yap, who occupies a number of specialist dental positions in Singapore, including in health services and professorships in SIM University and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Myanmar The Myanmar CE Programme event, in Yangon from 26 to 30 January and organized by the Myanmar Dental Association, comprises three lectures. Dr Cyanthi Seneviratne, Senior Scientific Affairs Manager for Colgate-Palmolive (Asia Division) will speak about ‘New approaches to managing dentin hypersensitivity’. The other two courses are on ‘Current dental implant designs and surgical concepts’ and ‘The missing lateral incisor: options in closing or opening space’. The first subject will be covered by Dr Tan Min Seet, a certified implant trainer and part-time tutor at the National University of Singapore and the second by Dr Derek Mahony, a regular keynote speaker at international and national orthodontic meetings.

Egypt The Egyptian Dental Syndicate will open the 2016 FDI CE Programme in the Middle East by organizing a course on ‘Basic implant’ and on ‘Advanced implantology’. The speaker is Prof Khaled Abdelghaffar, Professor and Chair of Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis, Oral Radiology, and Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Ain-Shams University, and post-graduate programme director of Periodontics and implant dentistry.
