136th WHO Executive Board Session started in Geneva on Monday, 26 Janu
The 136th Session of the WHO Executive Board kicked off on 26 January 2015 preceded by a special meeting on the Ebola emergency on Sunday 25 January. The 136th Session takes place in Geneva and lasts until 3rd of February 2015.

WHO Executive Board is made up of 34 elected members who are technically qualified in the field of health. The Board sessions are convened twice a year which the main meeting is in January. Currently, Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef serves as the Chairman of WHO Executive Board.

The Board represents 8 members from African countries, 7 from European countries, 12 from Asian countries including Iran, 1 from North American and 5 from South American countries as well as 1 member from Australia.

According to WHO:" The meeting will agree the agenda for the May 2015 World Health Assembly and adopt resolutions to be forwarded to the Assembly. Board Members will discuss priority issues in the areas of communicable and noncommunicable diseases; promoting health through the life course; preparedness, surveillance and response; and health systems as well as matters relating to program, budget, management and governance, and WHO reform."

The Executive Board's special session on Ebola opened by Dr. Chan, WHO Director –General on 25 January. The Ebola session followed by the speech of UN special envoy for Ebola as well as the touching speech of an Ebola fighter named Nurse Rebecca Johnson who put herself in danger to help people infected with Ebola in Sierra Leone treatment center.

The 136th session comes to an end on 3 February 2015.
